HOW WE GOT HERE

Our dreams of running a flower farm together became more tangible when an opportunity became available to rent land from family. From there we started talking about our vision and what it would take to turn our flower farming dream into a reality. We looked at the soil health, market potential, toured farms and came up with a business strategy, had a couple trial crops, and out of that came Luyah Farm.

Meet the Duo

Wendy Mulder

Wendy wasn’t necessarily born with a green thumb but rather a love for nature and restoring the environment. Her background is in graphic Design and Documentary Photography so she’s got a definite strong creative side. She grew up making seasonal bouquets and arrangements alongside her mom, yet entered the world of farming and land-use when married her life partner and farmer husband, Keith. Wendy worked for a few years for a Sturgeon County local organic farm and became more and more interested in market farming, creation care, climate change and the environmental impacts of commercial farming methods. Soon enough, talks with her sister-in-law, Jacilyn, of starting up a farm came naturally.

Jacilyn Kamara

Jacilyn is a born and raised farm girl. She grew up on her families potato farm and started participating in farm duties at a young age. By the time she was 15 she knew how to run a tractor, change her own oil and put in a hard days work. As an adult she followed her passion for caregiving and now works as a full-time Nurse in Edmonton. Jacilyn’s innate draw to the land and nature came full circle and her little backyard garden and community garden flower plots wouldn’t suffice and soon enough grew into her desire to work with flowers on a larger scale and more permanent basis.
